God Is Truth -- He Can Handle It!

I woke up in the wee morning hours on Tuesday, September 4, 2007; my dear husband went home to be with the Lord just a few hours before. It was Labor Day, Monday, September 3rd and he went out golfing with our oldest son. Doing something he truly enjoyed, he had a massive heart attack before he approached the 12th hole (although no one realized it at the time.)

Thinking he was only suffering from the heat of the day, he and my son came back to the house. It was about 10:30 in the morning when they reached our home. One look at him and I realized we were dealing with a serious problem. I called 911 and he was immediately rushed to the hospital. After numerous resuscitation efforts, he succumbed to a fatal and irreversible heart attack at 5:25 p.m. that day. "Lord, are you kidding me?"

"Lord, are you kidding me?" became my mantra nearly every day for the next 3 or so months. Gently, the Lord enveloped me in deep love, understanding and protection. He allowed me to cry, he allowed me to moan, he allowed me to grieve. I knew that Jim was instantly with the Lord and was rejoicing in his new birthday with our King of Kings, but I wanted him with me a little longer. We were married for almost 40 years and basically grew up together; we met at our high school youth group at church -- he was the preacher's son.

God knows what it is to grieve the loss of a loved one; He gave His only Son to die for our sins so that we may all be together for all eternity. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, knew what it meant to lose a loved one. Jesus grieved the death of His friend Lazarus, even though He knew He was going to raise him from the dead in just a few minutes. Perhaps it is because Jesus knew that in raising Lazarus that it would only be temporary, for it is appointed that all man will die. Unless we are the blessed ones who are quickened away in the blink of an eye, where we are here one second and present with the Lord in the next, we are all destined to die.

Martha, the sister of Lazarus, came running to meet the Lord and said "if you only had been there my brother would not have died!" I paraphrased this from the bible; see the story in John 11. Even Martha, who loved the Lord Jesus and knew Him well shared her hurt, her grief and her feelings with the Lord. It is when we share our heart, our truths as we know them to be that our Lord can reach down and comfort us. He knows the truth anyway, for HE IS TRUTH!

The truth is that Jesus sent us His Holy Spirit to be our Comforter, our Friend, our Encourager -- He is the Spirit of Truth. Jesus promised us that He is coming back. I believe Him, I feel the love and comfort of the Holy Spirit. I love the Truth! The Truth is God! Amen...
